Unlike wolves, dogs can digest starch.
And that's exactly why they evolved alongside us as household companions: dogs have plenty of amylase, the enzyme that breaks down starch, and wolves don't. That means dogs can digest proteins from plant-based foods and absorb the carbohydrates that come with them. So our family dogs don't need whole bowls full of meat – which is why cooking for your dog is fun, healthy and transparent, and keeps you firmly in control of the costs.
How does it work?
We've created easy recipes so you can cook a complete meal for your dog in one pan. Super simple – and you can tweak the recipes yourself in your account.
Most of it is plant-based, and you can simply use up leftovers from your fridge. That way you waste less and make your dog super happy with tasty, fresh and unprocessed food instead of the same old kibble every day.
And the best part:
👉 You know exactly what's in the bowl
👉 You stay in control of the costs
👉 Your dog gets all the nutrients they need from fresh, unprocessed food with a minimum of preservatives.
👉 Your dog loves it that you're cooking just for them!
Below you'll find an example recipe. We base the recipes on your dog's protein needs and build the rest around that. At least 55% of the protein comes from plant-based ingredients, for example pulses, potatoes, rice or pasta. You top up the rest with whatever you have to hand:
- leftover meals
- meat or fish on special offer (that would otherwise be thrown away… grr!) or from a local farmer
- seitan and the occasional soya product (tofu or veggie meat)
- or a boiled egg now and then 🥚
You can let us know if your dog can't have certain foods, such as beef or wheat, and they'll be left out of the recipes. And you can choose between fully vegetarian recipes, planet-friendly (20% animal protein) or with 45% meat/fish.
Tailor-made recipes
After you order Jus’Cani, you'll find the MENU MAKER tab in your customer account. Fill in your dog's details and your ingredient preferences there, and you'll then receive recipes tailored especially to your dog.
Busy days and short on time?
We totally get it. Luckily you don't have to cook every day to give your dog something extra. Even with 3 or 4 fresh meals a week, your dog already gets lots of valuable nutrients from pure, unprocessed food.
